We use the analytics tool Matomo to collect statistical information about website usage. Matomo operates in compliance with GDPR.
These cookies enable the comparison of aggregated statistical reports on visitor activity. They do not contain personal information, but they may include:
- IP address (masked; not the full address)
- Geolocation (country, region, city, approximate longitude and latitude)
- Date and time of the visit
- Page title (title of the viewed page)
- Page URL (address of the viewed page)
- Referrer URL (previous page visited)
- Screen brightness on the user’s device
- Local time zone of the visitor
- Downloaded files (links clicked for downloads)
- External links clicked (outbound links)
- Page load time (performance speed)
- Browser language (Accept-Language header)
- Browser details (version, plugins such as PDF, Flash, Java, etc.), operating system version, and device information (User-Agent header)
- Language of the visited page
- On-site searches
- User interactions and events
To improve the accuracy of generated reports, information is also stored in a first-party cookie from the website, which is then retrieved by Matomo. The following data is collected:
- Random unique visitor ID
- Time of the visitor’s first visit
- Time of the visitor’s previous visit
- Total number of visits by the visitor
In addition, Matomo generates a persistent cookie with a random ID. This allows the system to recognize returning users. The cookie expires after 13 months, after which it is automatically removed from the user’s device.

Privacy
On July 20, 2018, a new law on the processing of personal data (the Personal Data Act) came into effect. The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was incorporated into Norwegian law.
The personal data regulations establish strict requirements for handling personal data and emphasize the rights of data subjects.
According to these regulations, the data controller cannot store personal data longer than necessary for the intended purpose. Personal data that cannot be deleted must be retained in compliance with the Archives Act and its regulations.
The National Research Ethics Committees process personal data in accordance with these rules. You can find our privacy policy here (in Norwegian).
